Volunteer Center Celebrates 10th Anniversary ‘Volunteer Challenge’ on May 8

Record Number of Corporations and Nonprofits Team Up for Annual Fundraising

The Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley will celebrate its 10th anniversary Volunteer Challenge on May 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. at ArtsQuest, SteelStacks in Bethlehem. Eric Luftig, Victaulic’s vice president, marketing and corporate communications, is the honorary chair of the agency’s largest fundraising event.

The Volunteer Challenge is a one of a kind corporate competition in which companies partner with local nonprofit agencies to complete sustainable projects. Companies select projects from a list generated by the Volunteer Center in conjunction with the agencies based on the best fit for and interests of their team. A record 35 companies have paired with area nonprofits to complete projects that benefit the nonprofits. Projects include skill-based programming; interior renovations- room makeovers; painting and redecorating of office space;  creating community gardens, and cleanup of trails – to name a few. There is no other more collaborative and engaging program with the level of impact that the Volunteer Challenge has in the community.

“This is an especially exciting year for the Volunteer Challenge as we celebrate our 10th anniversary with a record number of corporations,” said Karen Daly Smith, chief executive officer of the Volunteer Center. “Each year, the event gets bigger and bigger. Since its beginning, 64 companies have participated, 93 community organizations have been helped and 150 projects completed. Countless lives have been changed through this good work. Organizations including Air Products, Crayola and PPL have been involved and actively participated in projects and support since the inception.”

At the May 8 event, each team will have a table to showcase their project. Attendees can buy votes for the project either online prior to the event or at the event to help select the winners. Winners are categorized by company size. There is also a “People’s Choice Award” given at the event.

Cost to attend is $40.00 and includes hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. In addition to viewing the many completed projects and opportunity to vote, attendees can bid on silent auction items, including trips, jewelry, restaurants, sporting events, and live TV shows in NYC.

Corporate sponsors include:   Victaulic, Air Products, Valley National, Fitzpatrick Lentz & Bubba, P.C., City Center Allentown, PPL, Provident Bank, Barry Isett & Associates, Crayola, Evans Wealth Strategies, Highmark Blue Shield, JVI, Lehigh Valley Health Network, Klunk & Millan Advertising, NAI Summit, PBS 39, ADP, St. Lukes, American Bank, Capital Blue, Embassy Bank, Liberty Property Trust, Norris McLaughlin, P.A. and UGI.
