VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FOR WEEK OF NOVEMBER 10th

 

BIG BROTHERS/BIG SISTERS OF THE LEHIGH VALLEY, Allentown seeks volunteers to be mentors “Bigs” for children “Littles” in their After-School Mentoring Program.  “Bigs” and “Littles” spend time on creative arts projects, recreation, health/nutrition, math games, and more; no math, computer, or tutoring skills needed.  Volunteer on Thursdays from 3:30-5pm.  All volunteers will complete an interview, need references, pass background checks, and receive training.  Call Natalie Artinger, 610-432-8000, nartinger@bbbslv.org.

GREATER VALLEY YMCA, Bethlehem needs a volunteer Cook/Server for Community Supper Program for youths ages 18 and under.  Primary responsibilities include proper preparation/cooking of all food items in a safe, timely manner maintaining high quality of food preparation.  Meal prep and serving meals must be done in accordance with CACFP requirements.  Must clean up after meals.   Previous experience is preferred.  Hours are 3:30-6:30pm Monday-Friday.  Call Maribel Tandazo, 610-351-9622 x820, maribeltandazo@gv-ymca.org.

NORTHEAST COMMUNITY CENTER, Bethlehem needs volunteer Tutors for their After-School Homework Club from 3-5pm Monday-Thursday.  Volunteers assist children with homework, school projects, reading, math, and enrichment activities.  Participate as little as one time per month or as often as program meets.  Background checks are required.  Call Paula Johnson, 610-691-3355, johnsonp@neccbethlehem.org.

SIXTH STREET SHELTER, Allentown needs a volunteer to be a Front Desk Greeter.  Greet visitors/residents and make sure they sign in; assist residents with completing necessity request forms or holiday wish lists; call residents to communicate when necessities are ready for pick-up or remind them of upcoming events; and assist Office Administrator with printing, filing, and other tasks as needed.  Hours are 9:30am-2pm MWF, with flexibility on number of days.  Call Heather Pritchard, 610-435-1490, hpritchard@caclv.org.

EQUI-LIBRIUM, INC., Nazareth is hosting a “Night at the Races” on Friday, November 15 at the PBS39 facility on the SteelStacks campus, Bethlehem.  Races will be shown on big screens and people can buy a horse, place bets, and cheer them on.  Volunteers are needed to help set-up, run bets during races, and help clean-up.  Volunteer time is from 4:30-8:30pm.  For more info and to sign up:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080a4aabac2fa4fb6-night

CEDARBROOK SENIOR CARE AND REHAB, Fountain Hill has a volunteer opportunity for people to escort residents (push wheelchairs) around at their Holiday Bazaar on Friday, November 15 between 9:30am-2pm.  Assist residents as they shop for hand-made crafts, baked goods, gift items, and more.  Table helpers are also needed.  Volunteers are asked to sign up for at least two hours.  Call Kerry Magliane, 610-336-5684, kerrymagliane@lehighcounty.org. 

COMMUNITY BIKE WORKS, Allentown needs instructors for their Earn-a-Bike program at their East Side facility.  This program teaches students (ages 9-17) basic bike mechanics and safety over a 12-week course.  It is a 6-8pm commitment one night a week.  No mechanical experience necessary.  Mentors aid students as they fix their bike and learn communication and teamwork skills.  Upon course completion, students earn their refurbished bike and a new helmet.  Call Hana Cannon, 610-820-9927, hcannon@communitybikeworks.org.

GUARDIANSHIP SUPPORT AGENCY, INC., Allentown needs individuals/groups/or families to spend time with people who are residing in assisted living facilities or skilled nursing facilities.  Activities could include playing cards, board games, sitting outside, or just chatting since many of our clients do not have regular/consistent visitors.  Call Kristen Pesarcik, 610-351-2013, guardianship@ptd.net.

SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK, Nazareth is looking for groups to volunteer with packing SUNShine Boxes, packages of supplemental food for low income seniors each month.  Help pack boxes on an assembly line, organize/load pallets, make boxes, break down boxes, and sweep.  Volunteers are asked to wear closed-toed shoes and be comfortable lifting to 40 lbs.  Upcoming dates are 12/10, 12/17, 1/7, 1/21, and 1/28 from 8:30am-12:30pm.  Call Idaliz Burgos, 484-287-4015, iburgos@caclv.org.

ST. LUKE’S UNIVERSITY HEALTH NETWORK, All Campuses needs additional Volunteer Escorts, Patient Advocates, and Hospice Volunteers Monday through Friday from 8am-noon or 12-4pm. Volunteers spend time socializing with and providing comfort items to patients while assisting staff with various support duties.
