Week of April 22nd VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

AMERICAN RED CROSS OF THE GREATER LEHIGH VALLEY, Allentown needs volunteers from 9am-2pm on Saturday, April 28 to “Sound the Alarm, Save a Life” by joining firefighters and community members to go out in teams to educate residents about home fire safety and install free smoke alarms in homes.  No experience or special skills required, and training will be provided that morning.  Register at   www.crowdrise.com/sound-the-alarm.

COMMUNITY BIKE WORKS, Allentown is looking for volunteers to teach the class in their Earn-a-Bike program.  This program teaches students (ages 9-17) basic bike mechanics and safety over a 12 week course.  Mentors aid students as they fix their bike and learn communication and teamwork skills.  Upon completion of the course, students earn their refurbished bike and a new helmet.  No mechanic experience is necessary.  Call Hannah Miller, 610-434-1140, Hannah@communitybikeworks.org.

FAMILY CONNECTION OF EASTON, INC. needs volunteers to serve as After School Tutors at Paxinosa and Cheston Elementary Schools in the Easton Area School District.  Tutors will provide homework help to students in grades 1-5.  All tutors will receive training, and all tutors must have various clearances.  Programs typically run from October to April annually from 3:30-5pm.  Call Carolyn Serva, 610-258-2551 x24075, servac@eastonsd.org.

LEHIGH VALLEY ZOO, Schnecksville is looking for volunteers who enjoy planning events, are outgoing and positive-spirited, and love contributing towards a great cause.  If you do, LV Zoo has a spot for you!  Join their Zoo Gala Planning Committee.  Must attend meetings once a month from May to October.  Duties include making phone calls, securing donation items for basket raffles, and researching event details.  Previous experience is preferred, but not required.  Deadline for consideration is May 7, 2018.  Call Doreen Carl, 610-799-4171 x232, dcarl@lvzoo.org.

SOUTHSIDE ARTS DISTRICT, Bethlehem needs volunteers to help with Spring on the SouthSide Chili-Cook Off from 9am-5pm on Saturday, April 28.  Opportunities include Set Up/Clean Up, Passport & T-Shirt Sales, Sell Beverages, Restock Chili Paper Supplies, Customer Service/Street Guide, Guide Celebrity Judges, and help with Hot Pepper Eating Contest.  Call Missy Hartney, 484-892-0395, missy@southsideartsdistrict.com.
