Spirit of Volunteerism Award Winners Announced

The 17th annual Spirit of Volunteerism Awards will be held Tuesday, October 29th at DeSales University, from 5:30 to 8:00 PM.  This event, which is coordinated and hosted by the Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley, is held annually to honor the corporate employees, teams and organizations that are nominated by local nonprofits or businesses.  These award winners embody the spirit of volunteering in their community and serve as role models for others.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of many nonprofit organizations here in the community and the Spirit of Volunteerism Awards is one way of recognizing and thanking all the great efforts of those individuals, teams and organizations.  The 2019th award winners include:

First Commonwealth Financial Wellness Team, nominated by First Commonwealth Federal Credit Union

Gretchen Furst, nominated by Civic Theatre of Allentown
Jackie Mohr, PPL, nominated by PPL
April Riddick, St. John’s UCC Church Allentown, nominated by Dress For Success Allentown
Carol Saeger, Just Born, nominated by Just Born & Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network
The Service Team of Rexroth, A Bosch Company, nominated by Sixth Street Shelter
Emma Yeh, E.I.T., Barry Isett & Associates, nominated by Barry Isett & Associates


The judges this year reviewed 24 nominations and narrowed down the winners.  The volunteer efforts by all the nominees highlighted longstanding personal commitment and devotion to serving with multiple organizations.

Matthew Petrozelli from Valley National Financial Advisors is the Honorary Chair for the event.  Mr. Petrozelli, his family and his organization are all actively engaged in the community through many projects, programs and organizations they support. Ashley Russo, ASR Media Productions will be the 2019 emcee.  Ms. Russo and her team have been long standing partners with the Volunteer Center including past honorary chair & winner of an award.  Ashley and her team also creatively design our programming bringing new ideas and great energy to the program each year.

All nominees will be recognized with the Proclamation/Award recognizing their contributions to our community based on their service hours and commitment.
